Marilyn Grace (Durkee) Britton, 88, passed away peacefully on May 25. Born in Trenton, NJ, she later moved to Syracuse and attended Edward Smith School and Nottingham High School. Marilyn graduated from the Syracuse University College of Liberal Arts with a degree in Mathematics in 1946, and was a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority.
Marilyn designed camera lenses at Eastman Kodak in Rochester prior to working at Carrier Corporation in Syracuse, where she met the love of her life, Paul Britton. Marilyn and Paul married in 1948, and she was a loving stay at home mother to their three children. She later worked for Skeele Builders. Marilyn volunteered as a math tutor, Call For Action counselor, and taught religious education. She was a proud member of The Daughters of the American Revolution. She loved to travel, and particularly enjoyed her trips to England, Bermuda, and all 50 of the United States. Marilyn enjoyed reading, playing bridge, solving crossword puzzles, and watching Jeopardy.
A devout Catholic, Marilyn was a communicant of All Saints Church. Marilyn is remembered for her warmth and kindness.
Marilyn is survived by her husband of 65 years, Paul; two sons, Dick (Jan) Britton and Tom (Kris) Britton; daughter Cathy (Mike) Thorpe; grandchildren Michelle (Chris) Pickard, Laurie (Peter) Pincus, Tim Thorpe, Matt (Sarah) Britton, Bridget Britton, and Laura Britton; great-grandchildren Kathleen and Jessica Pickard, and Evie Pincus. She was predeceased by her daughter-in-law, Gini Britton.
Calling hours are on Thursday, June 5 from 4 to 6 pm at Burns Garfield Funeral Home, 3175 E. Genesee St, Syracuse. A funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, June 6 at All Saints Church, 1340 Lancaster Ave, Syracuse.
